Workshop - Appliqué as Patchwork: Building Shape & Form

£65.00

DATE & TIME: Fri 5 Dec 2025, 18:00–20:30 GMT

In this hand-stitching workshop, you’ll explore how appliqué can be used to create unique shapes that become the building blocks of a patchwork. By cutting, stitching, and arranging organic forms, you’ll learn how to develop abstract compositions without the need for a sewing machine or precise measuring.

Full Description

This workshop introduces a slower, hand-stitched approach to patchwork—using appliqué techniques to build shape, form, and structure.

You’ll be guided through how to cut, layer, and hand-stitch shapes and forms using appliqué techniques, before being shown how to then transform these into patchwork. We will be able to create intricate shapes and patterns with these techniques to elevate the way you think about patchwork and quilt composition.

These appliquéd pieces then become the foundation for individual patchwork blocks. You’ll explore how to repeat, shift, or vary your shapes to create rhythm and complexity as you stitch multiple blocks together.

This is a class about transforming visual ideas into tactile form, using simple tools and improvised methods. It’s an invitation to work more freely with your materials and to think differently about how patchwork can be made.

How to Join

After booking, you’ll receive an email with a link to submit attendee details. Zoom links will be sent to registered attendees before the workshop. A recording will be available for 14 days after the session.

Who the Workshop is For

This workshop is ideal for those with some hand-stitching experience who want to explore a different approach to building patchwork. It offers an accessible way to work with more complex shapes, allowing you to layer and build compositions through appliqué rather than piecing seams. Perfect for those who enjoy working visually and intuitively with cloth.
