A Brief History of the Christmas Stocking
The tradition of hanging stockings by the fire has roots in European folklore. One of the most well-known stories ties it to Saint Nicholas, who is said to have dropped gold coins into stockings drying by the fire, providing unexpected joy to those who needed it most. Over time, this charming act of kindness evolved into the Christmas stocking as we know it today—a symbol of giving and care during the festive season.
While the boot-shaped stocking has become the norm, I believe traditions should evolve along with us. The holiday season is the perfect time to embrace new ideas, honour creativity, and make something that feels meaningful to you and your home.

I’m excited to share three new stocking designs, each inspired by a blend of Cornish language and everyday objects, as well as natural elements connected to the season:
PYCHER (Jug): A nod to vessels and the growing collection of jugs I seem to be unintentionally collecting at home.
KELEGEL (Chalice): Reminiscent of drinking cups and the spirit of sharing festive feasts with loved ones.
LOOR (Moon): A shape inspired by the winter season and its journey from darkness back into light.
Each pattern is designed to encourage slow, sustainable making, offering the chance to create something uniquely yours. These stockings can be made from fabric scraps or materials you already have, making them both environmentally friendly and budget-conscious.
