Modernist Studio Pottery Bowl
Origin: Unknown maker, likely mid-century studio pottery
Material: Glazed stoneware
Diameter: Approx. 19cm
Height: Approx. 4cm
A striking, hand-thrown studio ceramic, this square-form plate brings together modernist geometry and gestural glaze work in a bold, painterly finish.
Layers of oxblood red, ultramarine, cream, and sand have been poured and brushed into the shallow form, with abstract shapes overlapping in soft drips and sharp edges. The crisp, sloped walls lend a sculptural presence, while the exposed rim reveals the raw, warm clay beneath—a quiet nod to the process.
Signed by the artist on the base. Thought to be mid- to late-20th century, with a visual language in keeping with British and American studio pottery of the modernist era.
Excellent vintage condition. A one-off work with depth, colour, and character—suited to display or daily use.
