Japanese Studio Pottery Vase with Arched Handle
Origin: Japan, likely mid–late 20th century
Material: Stoneware
Height: Approx 18cm (not including handle)
A beautiful example of Japanese studio pottery, this hand-thrown stoneware vase features a tall, tapering body with a unique arched handle.
The surface reveals a subtle gradient of earthy tones, warm ochre through to deep charcoal, achieved through natural ash deposits and reduction firing.
The handle transforms the piece into a sculptural object as much as a functional vase. The form draws on traditional utilitarian vessels, its asymmetry and tactile surface celebrating the process of making.
Stamped by the maker near the base, excellent condition.
