Textiles Collage Workshop - Ray Stitch, London

  • Ray Stitch 66-68 Essex Road London, England, N1 8LR United Kingdom (map)

Maximum Class Size: 5 (reduced for social distancing)

Level: Beginner - This session is a creative session with a variety of simple skills to get you started with quilting or creating with textiles.

Learn how to use fundamental patchwork and quilting skills to create a textile collage from oddments, scraps and textiles waste. Inspired by the textiles collage project in Julius’s new book, Modern Quilting

You will begin by learning a little bit about House of Quinns own practises, showing you a selection of quilt work and inspiration to help you start thinking creatively about your textiles collage.

Julius will teach you how to use simple techniques to patchwork, stitch and finish your collage ready to frame or display in your home.

This workshop is an opportunity to learn some basic skills that you can experiment with, personalise and use in your own creative practice. By the end of the workshop, you should be armed with the skills to carry on making at home.

This workshop will cover:

  • Patchwork, using the chain piecing method.

  • Stitching and quilting

  • Constructing and finishing your quilted piece ready for display.

Materials you will need to bring:

Fabric - Cotton or Linen. Selection of scrap and remnants. These can be very small pieces so think about bringing textiles scraps or old clothes and fabrics you would like to recycle. I recommend using plain fabrics for this workshop which are of a garment weight.

  • Top fabric - enough to create your collage (30 x 40 cm)

  • Backing fabric - 35 x 45 cm - plain cotton or linen is best.

Tools, wadding and threads will be provided by Ray Stitch.
