Abstract Appliqué Workshop - Ray Stitch, London

  • Ray Stitch 66-68 Essex Road London, England, N1 8LR United Kingdom (map)

Maximum Class Size: 5 (reduced for social distancing)

Level: Beginner/intermediate - This session is a creative session with a variety of skills designed to be achievable for all levels. Students must have an understanding of machine sewing.

During this workshop, Julius will guide you through a creative approach to applique and textiles collage so that you can create your own quilted wall hanging.

You will begin by learning a little bit about House of Quinns own practises, showing you a selection of quilt work and inspiration to help you start thinking creatively about your abstract quilt composition. Julius will teach you how to use a range of hand applique techniques to create a unique composition that you will then hand quilt and bind to turn it into a wall hanging.

This workshop is an opportunity to deconstruct traditional quilting techniques and experiment so that you can create something that is personal to you. By the end of the workshop, you will not only have a beautiful wall hanging to take away but should be armed with the skills to carry on making at home!

In this workshop you will cover the following techniques:

  • Textiles collage and composition

  • Simple hand applique techniques and skills

  • Constructing and finishing your quilted piece ready for display.

Materials: Your quilted wall hanging will measure approximately 55cm x 55cm. We will supply you with natural bamboo/cotton wadding and threads, you can also rummage through our fabric scraps to see if we have anything that compliments your design.

You will need to bring with you one piece of fabric for the back measuring 55cm x 55cm plus a variety of smaller pieces to create the front.

Booking a class at Ray Stitch entitles you to 10% off all fabrics in-store purchase for use in the course and for one week afterwards.
