Hagi Ware Flower Vase by Shibuya Doroshi – Japanese Studio Pottery
Origin: Yamaguchi, Japan - Odaiba Kiln
Material: Glazed stoneware
Height: approx. 23cm
Diameter: approx. 12cm
A tall vintage Japanese Hagi ware vase from the Odaiba Kiln, made by Shibuya Doroshi. Hagi ceramics are known for their soft glazes and unassuming forms - favoured for tea ceremony and ikebana floral displays, where their raw texture and patina over time are part of the appeal.
This piece has a sculptural silhouette and a pooled milky white glaze that breaks to warm earth tones at the base. The surface shows the distinctive texture of kuchi-tsuchi, the porous clay used in traditional Hagi ware.
Likely made in the late 20th century, it comes in its original tomobako (wooden storage box), with a certificate of origin that outlines the kiln’s history.
Minor glaze imperfections/chips in the texture near the base, consistent with age and material.
