CAER COLLECTION

A collection of painted works on cloth

Caer is a new collection of framed painted works on cloth, created through a slow, intuitive process of layering, gesture and surface. These original artworks sit within the language of textile but move away from function, offering a quiet, abstract expression through material and form.

Each piece begins with fabric remnants, mostly linen offcuts, arranged and pressed over cut forms to create a raised, tactile surface. Once set, the surfaces are hand-finished with layers of earth pigment in tones of terracotta, brick and peat. These pigments settle into the fabric’s folds and textures, revealing shape and depth. The surface is then sealed, leaving a dry, mineral finish that echoes the natural colours of soil and stone.

Framed, these pieces extend my long-standing interest in textile-based artworks that sit between object and image. While unstitched, they remain firmly rooted in my practice, which has always explored the possibilities of cloth as both material and meaning. Quilting, cutting, assembling and composing are carried here too, reimagined in painted form.

The name Caer comes from the Welsh word for an enclosed stronghold. It speaks to ideas of protection, boundary and quiet holding, themes that run through this collection. Each piece carries a sense of inwardness, where edge and form are softened, pared back, and made still.

This collection continues a thread in my practice: a commitment to material sensitivity, abstraction, and a connection to place. Cloth has long been a vessel for my ideas, whether through stitched quilts, assembled wall works, or sculptural pieces. Caer offers a new expression of this vocabulary, through painted cloth framed for interior and gallery spaces.

All works are original, one-of-a-kind, and available to view and enquire via the painted works section of the site:

If you'd like to enquire about a piece, you're warmly invited to use the form found on each artwork page, or email directly if that's more comfortable. This approach allows for a slower, more thoughtful exchange — offering space for questions, conversation, and clarity before purchasing. It reflects a shift in how I’m choosing to share work: less transactional, more personal and open.

Whether you're interested in adding a work to your home, your collection, or simply want to know more, all enquiries are welcome.
