A Textile Assembly | House of Quinn at London Craft Week

In May 2023, I participated in A Textile Assembly, a group exhibition curated by Craft Show during London Craft Week, held at Staffordshire St. gallery in Peckham. The exhibition showcased over twenty artists and makers working across stitch, weave, dye, and print — each exploring the structures and stories embedded in cloth and construction. It was an honour to exhibit alongside such a dynamic group of contemporary textile artists.

My contribution featured quilted and dyed textile works crafted from reclaimed cloth and hand-dyed with natural indigo. These pieces continue my exploration of form, memory, and material — connecting to past collections like Formations, while venturing into new territories of scale and presentation. Composed of layers of vintage cotton and linen, the works were assembled slowly, stitched by hand, and developed over time using methods like resist dyeing, patchwork, and appliqué.

At the heart of this work is a belief in quilt-making as a form of contemporary textile practice — a space where material, memory, and abstraction converge. I'm drawn to the rhythm of repetition, the weight of cloth, and the way hand-making invites a kind of attention that feels both ancient and vital.

The exhibition also featured a series of events, including workshops and panel talks, which added to the sense of dialogue and exchange. It was a joy to share space with other makers and to witness how varied practices can speak to each other across process and intention. Events like this underscore the quiet power of textile art to connect people — not just through what we make, but how and why we make it.
