A Guide to Contemporary Quilting with Create Academy
I’m excited (and a little nervous) to share that my first-ever online quilting course has launched with Create Academy:
A Guide to Contemporary Quilting.
Over five hours of video lessons, I guide you through the fundamentals of quilt-making—sharing the techniques I’ve built my practice on and the mindset behind how I work. The course is divided into bitesize chapters, covering everything from fabric selection to hand-stitching and finishing. Whether you’re new to quilting or looking to reconnect with your own creative process, this is a gentle and encouraging place to begin.
The focus throughout is on a contemporary approach to quilting. Working with what we already have—old clothing, leftover curtain fabric, forgotten table linens—I show you how to transform simple cloth into expressive, modern textiles for the home. We cover improvisational patchwork, abstract appliqué, intuitive composition, and the basics of quilt construction. Nothing too rigid. Nothing too perfect. Just cloth, colour, and curiosity.
I believe quilting is about connection—to memory, to place, and to the materials we use. It’s a way of reflecting and remembering, of slowing down and making space. This course is an extension of that belief.
Many of the projects are inspired by my own memories—motifs and shapes drawn from growing up in Cornwall, softened and repeated across my work. Through this process, I hope to encourage you to look at your own surroundings, to collect forms, to find rhythm in the everyday, and to make something that feels like yours.

Filming this course was a big step. I’m not someone who naturally seeks the camera, and the act of sharing my process so openly was daunting at first. But the Create Academy team were generous, kind, and patient—and together we’ve made something I feel proud of: a course that shares not only how I work, but why I work the way I do.
You can head to Create Academy’s website to learn more and sign up. If you take part, I’d truly love to see what you make—please tag your projects on Instagram @houseofquinn or use the hashtag #houseofquinn.
Thank you, and happy making.
