ONLINE - Curved Machine Piecing with Ray Stitch, London.

  • Ray Stitch 66-68 Essex Road N1 8LR (map)

Level: Beginner/intermediate - This session is a creative session with a variety of skills designed to be achievable for all levels. Students must have an understanding of machine sewing.

During this workshop, Julius will guide you through a creative approach to curved quilt piecing so that you can create your own small quilt.

You will begin by learning a little bit about House of Quinns own practises, showing you a selection of quilt work and inspiration to help you start thinking creatively about your abstract quilt composition. Julius will teach you how to use a range of cutting and piecing techniques to create a unique abstract quilt design that you will then hand quilt and bind using the knife-edge technique.

In this workshop you will cover the following techniques:

  • Composition and scale

  • Curved quilt piecing by machine

  • Hand quilting and finishing your quilt with a knife-edge finish (the welsh way)

This workshop is an opportunity to deconstruct traditional quilting techniques and experiment so that you can create something that is personal to you. By the end of the workshop, you should be armed with the skills to carry on making at home.

Materials to bring with you: Any cotton fabrics that you would like to incorporate or recycle, to cover an area of 110cm x 110cm. Also a single piece of cotton fabric for the back also 110cm x 110cm.
