House of Quinn x Floor Story

Arrangement is a hand-knotted rug designed by House of Quinn in collaboration with Floor Story. Developed through drawing, painting and collage, the design translates processes found throughout the studio practice into an object for the home.

The project began in autumn 2025, when Floor Story invited artist and maker Julius Arthur to explore how his approach to textiles, quilting and collage might translate into rug design. Drawn and painted marks were cut, placed and repeatedly rearranged, allowing the composition to develop through the process of making.

Much like a quilt, a rug has a strong connection to the home and the spaces we live in. This became central to the development of Arrangement, considering both the placement of elements within the design and the way we arrange the things around us. Furniture, artworks and collected objects are positioned on and around a rug, making it part of the ongoing ritual of arranging a room.

The design also draws on familiar elements found within traditional rugs, including borders and central motifs. These references were interpreted through painted marks, collage and arrangement to create the final composition.

Craft is central to House of Quinn, and the making of Arrangement creates another connection with the wider textile practice. Each rug is made by skilled makers who interpret the original artwork through a different material process, giving the finished piece its own surface, texture and presence.
