Freelance Quilter and Project Sewing Support
House of Quinn is a contemporary craft and design practice that specialises in creating interior objects and artwork. As an independent designer, I manage House of Quinn alongside other work commitments. I have previously worked with some wonderful freelance support; however, their availability has changed, and they are no longer able to assist me as much. As a result, I am currently seeking additional freelance support who can assist me on a casual basis.
What I am looking for
I am looking for a freelance hand quilter or experienced sewing enthusiast who can handle larger textile pieces and work. This role would be suitable for someone looking to earn extra income in their free time or who already freelances and is looking to take on more projects.
The ideal candidate will have their own sewing space and equipment and be willing to work on a casual basis. As my workload can be unpredictable, I require someone who is flexible with their schedule and can handle last-minute requests.
It would be advantageous if the candidate is based in Sussex and has access to transportation or can receive deliveries. They should have an understanding of quilt-making, be a regular quilt maker or a passionate quilting and sewing enthusiast.
I am looking for someone who is passionate and experienced and can hit the ground running but who also understands the process and appreciates that this is a small, independent practice looking for professional support.
What you may be required to help with:
Basic patchworking skills and constructing quilt tops to spec.
Applique work - being able to hand stitch applique work to the desired finish.
Layer and construct quilts, layering the quilt layers and basting the quilt together in preparation for quilting.
Hand quilting, stitching quilts together to spec
Binding and finishing quilts to spec.
Things to note:
Due to the nature of the quilting work required, projects can be quite large. It would be advantageous if you have a space that can accommodate making large quilts. The ideal candidate should be comfortable handling larger textile pieces.
Projects may need to be sent to you in the post, usually by UPS. Or if local, they can be collected and picked up.
The hourly rate for this position is £15-20, depending on the candidate's experience and the project requirements.
If you are interested, please apply by completing the application form and sending a brief introduction about yourself and your experience. I will reach out to possible candidates to request further information.
Please note that my hiring process may take some time due to current commitments. I would like to have an informal meeting to discuss your skills and experience and provide the opportunity for you to ask any questions. Trial projects or work may be requested to ensure that work can be completed to the expected specification and standard.
If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, please contact me if you have any questions.
